Facebook’s F8 conference is currently underway in San Jose, California and it’s the 10th edition of the social media giant’s developer gathering. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg today took the stage to defend the numerous privacy implications which surfaced in the past year and how privacy is now the company’s central focus. During his keynote address, Zuckerberg  outlined Facebook’s vision for building a privacy-focused messaging and social networking platform. He joked that Facebook may not have the best reputation on the privacy front at the moment, but that isn’t stopping them from trying to improve the social experience for users. The resounding message that everyone, including Mark, seemed to propagate during the keynote was that ‘The future is private’ and Facebook is going to build a privacy-focused social platform that people want. Messaging apps will be the foundation of this new vision, as revealed on stage. So let’s check out the 5 key announcements from F8 2019,...

Samsung’s Q1 Profits Fall 60%; Galaxy S10 Selling Strong Though

Hit by weak demand in the memory chips and displays department, Samsung Electronics has today reported a massive 60% drop in operating profit (year-on-year) in the first quarter of 2019. The company, however, said the newly-launched Galaxy S10 smartphone lineup is generating solid sales. Samsung posted an operating profit of 6.2 trillion won (roughly $5.4 billion) – down from 15.64 trillion won (roughly $13.4 billion) last year – and quarterly revenue of 52.4 trillion won which fell 13.5% in comparison to last year’s final quarter. In its official press release, Samsung justified the same saying, “The Semiconductor business saw a drop in memory chip prices as inventory adjustments continued at data center companies, while demand for high-density memory for mobile phones increased thanks to new flagship smartphones.” On a positive note, Samsung said that it expects limited improvement in the memory chip market in the second quarter as demand will likely improve for major applicatio...

7 Best Pop-up Camera Smartphones in 2019

What started out with a massive number of notch copycats, has now flourished the era of almost bezel-less smartphones, now available even in the sub-Rs 10,000 price bracket in India. However, phone makers still aren’t satisfied and the aim of trimming bezels has led to newer implementations like the hole-punch or pop-up cameras. We’ve seen a couple of smartphones, including the Galaxy S10 lineup and Honor View 20 adopt the hole-punch, but the pop-up camera trend seems to be catching more heat and we’re going to see an onslaught of devices with the pop-up camera in the coming weeks. Vivo and Oppo, the pioneers of the pop-up trend, are leading the pack right now with the Korean giant Samsung dipping its toes into the market with its own innovative take. So, if you’re not the biggest fan of the notch, not even the waterdrop notch, and can live with mechanical moving parts on your smartphone, then you’re in the right place. We’ve compiled a list of the best pop-up camera smartphones f...

Realme Flagship with Snapdragon 855 Spotted

In light of Xiaomi’s confirmation of a Redmi flagship smartphone with a Snapdragon 855 among other high-end specs, it looks like Realme is also gearing up to launch something to compete against Xiaomi’s offering — expected to be the Redmi 2 Pro in China, and the Poco F2 in India and global markets. The leak comes from a listing spotted on TENAA, and it gives away quite a bit about the phone. First off, the TENAA listing reveals that the upcoming Realme flagship will pack in the Snapdragon 855 SoC, which automatically puts it right next to whatever it is that Xiaomi will launch. Along with that, the Realme phone is expected to pack in a 48MP rear camera (with probably the Sony IMX586 sensor instead of the Samsung ISOCELL sensor) which should result in more detailed photos from the phone. It’s also expected that the phone will come with a 6.5-inch display, even though we’re not sure if it’ll be an LCD or AMOLED panel. It looks like the phone will come with a 3,680 mAh battery, and an ...

Redmi Flagship Official Teaser Is Here: Avengers’ Special Edition Expected

Rumors about a Redmi smartphone with flagship specs have been doing the rounds for quite some time now, and we’re even hoping for the phone to be launched in India as the Poco F2. While so far, the only confirmation we had about the Redmi flagship phone were basically rumors, and one confirmation from Xiaomi VP Lu Weibing on Weibo, we now have an official teaser for the Redmi flagship, shared, once again, on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The teaser shows off all the latest phones in the Redmi series, including the Redmi 7, Note 7, and Note 7 Pro, interspersed with clips from Avengers: Endgame. At the very end, however, we get a glimpse of the upcoming phone’s silhouette and a selfie camera popping out of the frame. This goes in line with previous rumors about the upcoming Redmi flagship (and hopefully the Poco F2) having a pop-up selfie camera, which means there’ll be no notch on this phone, which is great, other than the likely loss of the IR face scanner that is beloved by...
